Last night was an amazing night as i watch a dream unfold The Collective  Mic Arts Cafe birthed from the vision and drive of its creators Tiffani”La Dive” Dean and Jody”True Story” Austin. It was a gathering i am blessed with its wait as many of the Collective family and us that are extension of that came out to show our support to the birth of a creative space made  11222414_10206599850147971_3055978666860805336_n

to bring in artistic creativity of all kinds. With walls laid out with some of the brightest talents the city has to offer. with walls that contained a story within themselves the artistry was speaking in its own tongue as pieces from Giovanni aka Lyrical Thought,Cierra F,Way LaMatrix,Kamau MShele, Alicia Adanna  Amira Jenna and MyDeraSpeakMeFree were on display and feature painter Giovanni and Cierra amazed us with there collaborative on set strokes of work that showed us all that when a woman hand speaks you better listen. The open mic was a blaze as artist came out to let loose old and new works of flowmenship that oozed from lips and allowed us to breath new air of words for a first time. But when it came to giving the mic what it needed, the crowed was fixed on the lyrical wordsmith Shyst giving a story that can only be told through rapid insertion and power that he possesses.

When the mic closed the night was far from over as Dj Mitch let the party people get something funky to mingle too as they feed on finger foods and libations that relaxed the night as it was meant too. In the end the Collective has shown all that as artist the time has come for forward progress as black business owners and a place for arts in neighborhoods that deserve to be brought back to life within a continued beginning that will go on for ever…

A Drummers Hymn

  •

A drummers hymn will always bring life to you

a drummers hymn will always bring life to you

Listen to the beat as it resides in you

Listen to your ancestors as they talk to you

A drummers hymn will always bring life into you

A drummers hymn will always bring life into you

Listen to the cry of children coming through

Listen as your people make a war cries

They are crying

Little girls are crying

As they scream in anger still wondering why someone wanted to burn them behind church walls

Listen as little boys cry out to you

He wonders why they hung him when he did nothing special all

Listen to the drum

Their spiritual is dance rides callus tips

Listen to the percussion as it is the little voices asking why

Listen as its tap are little voices wondering why

A drummers hymn will always bring life to you

A drummers hymn will always bring life to you

Listen to the beat as it resides in you

Listen to your ancestors as they talk through you

New York State of Mind

“When you talk about a great actor, you’re not talking about Tom Cruise.”
Lauren Bacall

Every actors wants to be noticed for a great performance but truth is many think of having a horrible moment over actually doing well first. Funny thing about getting in front of an audience is they know whats good and whats bad in your performance. As many of the cast mates took to the stage at the Cool Stories Vol 1 Fest some were as nervous as me when we walked in and saw that we were actually in NY to show what we can do. From person to person i watched as they took the time to allow the presence to seep into each performance and allow the feat to become the lead into a moment where the crowd then saw what they can do. In the end, they received the claps the cheers and the bow that all actors great and amateur want total appreciation for what they do..

Beautiful Comedy

  • Humor [in a scene] is not jokes. It is that attitude toward being alive without which you would long ago have jumped off the 59th Street Bridge.
    ~ Michael Shurtleff

The believability in comedy is being able to take something from daily living and stretch it into a humor that is seen as annoying but funny at the same time. It is in these actions where most actors utilize the understanding and allow it to make its way into a scene to make people think while seeing a reason too laugh as well. As actors it is there job to bring you into those moments and see all the humor abnormality and seriousness of not only the actions but what they may be saying that is made to be a moment called tragic comedy. So now you walk away smile or laugh but here is the big part did you get the message?

As men often we are looked at as the stronger sex able to handle all obstacles and take any form of pain that comes our way. Truth be told we are no different from a woman. We want to be loved?”,understood, appreciated and heard. However in relationships we aren’t supposed to show who we really are even if ones mate says that you can be yourself completely. Funny moments happen when a man finally let’s his guard down to his mate often he is met with words like “man up,” “be a real man,” but what’s being missed is that he is and with the assumption that he can finally open up to someone he then reverts back into his shell and becomes the tortes that life only wants to acknowledge. So when you have that moment to finally heT his inner voice see his inner soul let it be ok for it will be a new beginning and the beginning of a prosperous relationship. LOVE

News Flash

Rehearsal moment and Donna Griggs is putting on a marvelous performance as a mother in despair in “Missing News”

There is nothing worse then the fear and loss of a child. In many cases we never hear the stories of these children but we do see there faces on Facebook or on poles in the inner city but not on the news. The sad thing about media is it can hold a bias to what it shows and over the years those stories of missing minority children had fallen short. With that being said, it is up to us the everyday person to continue putting out Amber alerts in our own way till we see complete change in this missing news view…

Dedication

Dedication goes a long way I. This business we call entertainment. For many it’s about being able to say I’m an actor or I’m a producer that they look for the oooohhhs and aaahhs of others to validate there involvement. Consequently what they aren’t paying attention to is that some people are actually watching what he or she is doing, how much work they are putting I to the craft, how they handle this as a job and not a game. To be in the entertainment business is to truly understand that none of this comes easy, fast or free. What must be understood is all eyes are on the best and with that it only gets you I to the next project of this… Business(think).
